For the mentee Preparation before the meeting During the first meeting It's time to take the first step

The first meeting between mentor and mentee is crucial for establishing trust and laying the foundation for a successful mentoring relationship. Preparing for this meeting includes several steps that will help ensure that the meeting is productive and efficient.

For the mentee

Preparation before the meeting

✅ Evaluate your experience and skills.

Think about your strengths and areas where you might need a boost.

✅ Formulate your expectations for yourself.

Be clear about what you expect from mentoring and how you are prepared to work on yourself.

✅ View the mentor's profile in the app and on LinkedIn.

Get information about the mentor, their experience and skills.

✅ Set goals for the first date.

Think about what you expect from the first meeting.

✅ Plan the meeting agenda and ask the mentor for a meeting.

Prepare the key points you want to cover for you. Write them briefly in the application in the request for a meeting with a mentor.

During the first meeting

✅ Introduce yourself and meet the mentor.

Start the meeting with a friendly greeting and a short introduction about yourself. Chat about common topics to make a personal connection and build trust.

✅ Exchange mutual expectations.

Discuss mutual expectations of the mentoring relationship. Say what you expect as a mentee and listen to what your mentor expects.

✅ With the help of a mentor, specify your goals and the paths to them.

Discuss your short-term and long-term goals. Put them in context and say why and how you want to achieve them. Hear feedback from a mentor. Agree with the mentor on the basic paths that lead to the achievement of your goals.

✅ Agree with the mentor on what he can help you with.

If the collaboration makes sense for you and the mentor, arrange one or more meetings together. Agree on the frequency and length of future meetings.

✅ Record your first tasks.

If appropriate, set initial tasks or activities with the mentor to complete before the next meeting.

It's time to take the first step

Mentoring is a great thing for your personal growth. Mentoring is not about being perfect, but about having the courage to learn, grow professionally and achieve your goals. All mentors are here for you voluntarily, because they believe that investing in personal development makes a lot of sense. They also expect to learn something from you. Go ahead, the first step is yours.
